A group of industry execs are launching a B2B content marketplace that will enable the buying and selling of programmes online, without the need for a traditional distributor.

Bunqer.tech is launching with a beta version later this month and will launch fully at the end of the year.

The company is co-led by co-founder and former co-CEO of R&G Production Stephane Gateau and entrepreneur and former lawyer Charles van den Broek.

Using AI, the distribution platform enables buyers and producers across the world to buy and sell their content in a similar fashion to online shopping.

Bunqer.tech is marketing itself as a platform with low rates, that targets sellers’ back catalogues for buyers who need cost effective programming. It can also instantly subtitle programmes into 75 languages.

According to the company, it has so far secured more than 8,000 hours of content, with early platform adopters including sports network ESPN and French animation house Millimages.

The company’s board includes Yves Bigot (former CEO of TV5 and head of programming at France 2, RTBF and Endemol France), Richard Le Normand (former CEO of StudioCanal) and Olivier Pluquet (former CEO of Havas Asia Pacific).

The tech team features Sequencia AI founder Boris Borzic and Epitech engineer Philippe Sang. International representation is handled by Loïc Gosselin (Americas), François Mercardier (EMEA) and Dominique Ullman (Asia).

Nathalie Wogue of Wogue Entertainment advises on programming and international business development.

Amazon is a technical partner and sponsor, while BNP Paribas is a partner and sponsor, and BPI France is a financing partner.

Gateau said: “As a long-time producer of a wide range of successful TV shows, I’m pleased to see a platform that creates new revenue opportunities for producers – even long after programmes have aired.

“Bunqer fills that need by offering broadcasters and local platforms an easy, cost-effective and flexible solution to today’s programming challenges. I look forward to its continued growth and success.”

Van den Broek added: “We are confident Bunqer.tech will become an essential tool for producers and broadcasters building their programming grids. Our platform enables fast, simple and secure transactions for back-catalogue content.”
