AXN Asia spotlights Taiwan’s Hakka people through Raknus Selu Trail doc

Food and travel writer Danny Wen Shi-Kai with photographer Chris Stowers

KC Global Media Entertainment-owned pay channel AXN Asia is gearing up to launch a documentary about the Hakka people and the iconic Raknus Selu Trail in Taiwan.

Secrets of the Raknus Selu Trail (1×60′) will premiere across AXN’s channels in Asia on September 27 and will also launch worldwide on AXN Asia’s YouTube channel the following day.

Supported by a four-part podcast series of the same name, the doc seeks to display to the world the Hakka culture, which has been created by Hakka people, a Han Chinese sub-group.

According to AXN, the Hakka heritage is now seeing a cultural revival with a new generation of young Hakkas across Taiwan.

The original production was commissioned by the Hakka Affairs Council and is hosted by British photographer Chris Stowers and Taiwanese food and travel writer Danny Wen Shi-Kai.

Set up by former Sony executives Andy Kaplan and George Chien, US-based KC Global Media Entertainment operates a portfolio of premium pay TV channels in South-East Asia and Korea via KC Global Media Asia.

As well as English-language general entertainment network AXN, it includes animé channel Animax, South Korea’s One and Japanese entertainment channel Gem.
