AVoD Filmzie acquires first TV series

Channel 4 teen drama Skins

Movie-focused free streaming and social platform Filmzie has moved into acquiring television series as it continues to grow its offering in the UK.

Classic Channel 4 teen drama Skins is among the library content picked up by the platform, which has previously been home to independent films such as Deception and What We Do In The Shadows.

Ross Kemp-fronted police action series Ultimate Force and Glasgow-set crime thriller The Field of Blood, starring Peter Capaldi, have also been added to the AVoD service’s offering, along with past seasons of Undercover Boss USA, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, MasterChef USA and Fresh Meat.

Matej Boda, CEO of Filmzie, said: “Our move into acquiring series is part of our plan to give audiences content they love for free. Our model means everyone can enjoy cult favourites, excellent comedy and TV classics wherever they want, whenever they want, and without having to worry about the cost.”

Filmzie’s UK service is the first in what is planned to be a multi-market international roll-out. Additional territories and platforms are expected to follow throughout 2021.
