Australia’s Foxtel to close genre channels Foxtel Movies Thriller, SciFi

Star Trek: Voyager is among several Star Trek series on SciFi

Australian pay TV operator Foxtel will shutter its genre channels Foxtel Movies Thriller and SciFi at the end of this month.

It is understood that Foxtel’s genre and thriller content library will now be dispersed across its Fox8, Showcase and Movies channels.

Foxtel launched SciFi in 2019, replacing NBCUniversal-owned channel Syfy. It carries content including the original Charmed, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Foxtel Movies Thriller, which launched in 2014, is a rebrand of the Thriller/Crime movie channel.

Last year Foxtel culled its Paramount content-specific channels following a restructured deal that led to the shutdown of the MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, beIN Sports and PBS Kids channels.
