Australian comedy-drama Sunny Nights headlines Cineflix Rights’ scripted slate
D’Arcy Carden and Will Forte star in Sunny Nights
LONDON TV SCREENINGS: Australian series Sunny Nights is heading UK distributor Cineflix Rights’ scripted slate at the London TV Screenings this week.
The 8×60’ comedy-drama is produced by Jungle Entertainment and Echo Lake Entertainment for Aussie streamer Stan. Directed by Trent O’Donnell (Colin from Accounts), it stars Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) as a strait-laced American who teams up with his loose-cannon sister (The Good Place’s D’Arcy Carden) to set up a spray tan business in Sydney.
The siblings become tangled up in the city’s criminal underworld, and when a ruthless gangster begins to catch up with them, the two must figure out how to stay alive, out of prison and in the black.
Also on Cineflix Rights’ scripted slate is Virdee (6×60’), a crime thriller produced by Magical Society for UK pubcaster the BBC and based on AA Dhand’s novels. The plot follows a Bradford-based cop hunting down a serial killer.
From Skybound and Robot for Fuji TV in Japan is Heart Attack, an 8×45’ dystopian sci-fi drama based on the graphic novel created by Shawn Kittelsen and Eric Zawadzki (Mortal Kombat 2). It is described as a “live-action anime” series.
Cineflix Rights is also showcasing a slate of new factual shows at the London TV Screenings this week, including fishing series Cape Carnage: Killer Catch (10×60’), produced by McAvoy Media for Seven Network in Australia, UKTV in the UK and New Zealand’s TVNZ, and seasons one to three (80×60’) of European village-restoration show Help! We Bought a Village, from True North for the UK’s Channel 4.
Also in factual are real-life mystery series Vanished History (10×60’), from Shark Teeth Films for Canada’s Bell Media; WWII-focused Commando Missions (4×60’), from Galaxie Presse for France’s Canal+; and Cineflix Productions’ Crime Scene Investigators (13×60’), for Discovery UK and Bell Media.
Produced by Pernel Media for Planète+ and C8 in France plus TV5 Quebec in Canada are Vikings: The Empire of the North Sea (6×60’) and Alexander the Great (3×60’).
These new series join returning seasons of Channel 4 formats including competition show Tempting Fortune (Voltage TV and Group M Motion), A New Life in the Sun (True North) and Château DIY (Spark Media Partners).
