Aussie funding agency Screen NSW names Kylie Munnich as exec director

Australian funding agency Screen NSW has appointed former Screen Queensland chief Kylie Munnich as executive director, starting on March 16.

Kylie Munnich

Munnich replaces the former head of Screen NSW Kyas Hepworth who left the agency in December after three years in the top job.

Most recently, Munnich was VP of content sales at A+E Media Group, overseeing the UK and Ireland, and brings over 30 years of experience across international distribution, funding and content development and coproduction.

In her new position, Munnich will develop and deliver a second studio facility for the state, as part of the government’s A$380m (US$247m) screen and digital sector package aiming to resurrect NSW as the leading state for screen production.

Her arrival follows a restructure of the government screen organisation which now sits in its own division within the Department of Creative Industries, Hospitality, Tourism and Sport after previously sitting alongside Sound NSW and the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner.

Prior to joining A+E, Munnich was CEO of Australian prodco Goalpost Pictures from late 2022 to 2023, following a three-year term as CEO of Screen Queensland

Whilst steering the Queensland agency, the state accelerated production to unprecedented levels, attracting major inbound and domestic productions. These included Matchbox Pictures’ Irreverent; NBCUniversal US series Young Rock and Joe Exotic; Boy Swallows Universe for Netflix; Disney+ sci-fi series Nautilus; Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla vs Kong sequel; and Bunya Productions’ Limbo for ABC TV.

Munnich has also held senior roles at Seven Studios, Sonar Entertainment and internationally at Sony Pictures Television International, Sky Vision (now Sky Studios) and MGM International Television.
