Aussie format wins WBITVP pitch

MIPFORMATS: A nostalgic take on the talent show genre won the International Pitch here today, landing a development deal with Warner Bros in the process.

Big Again was one of five new formats pitched to the MipFormats jury this morning, developed by Australian prodco Hatch Entertainment, part of Australian marketing giant STW Group.

The format puts pop stars from yesteryear together with up-and-coming new musical talent, and together they record a new version of the older star’s hits. The format was pitched by Hatch chief and noted Aussie advertising creative Greg Logan.

The jury decided it was the best of the bunch, although they were certainly not unanimous in their decision, and Hatch will now receive up to €25,000 in development funding from Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP).

The four other candidates were quizshow Master Guesser, from Germany’s Norddeich TV Produktion; hidden-camera gameshow Nightmare Situation, from the UK’s TVF International; boardgame adaptation Tic Toc Boom, from France’s Fat Program; and generation-clash reality show The Bad Boys & Girls School for Old People, from Switzerland’s TV Formats.

The winner of last year’s pitch event, again backed by WBITVP, was Looking 4 Love from Canada’s Antica Productions. The dating format was subsequently picked for local development by Rogers Media.
