Aussie developer Greenfields seeks consortium partners for NSW studio complex

Greenfields Development, the backer of Western Sydney Studios in Australia, is seeking consortium partners for its emerging film and television studio precinct project.

The developer was one of the early applicants for the New South Wales (NSW) government’s A$100m (US$71m) tender to build a second studio facility for the state.

Currently, NSW’s primary studio infrastructure is Disney Studios Australia (formerly Fox Studios) at Moore Park.

The company emerged early last year with plans to build a A$128m studio complex in suburban Sydney’s Oran Park in five stages, within a housing and business estate development also being developed by Greenfields Development.

The plan received development application approval from local authority Camden Council in September last year. The development includes three soundstages, multiple workshops, offices, car parking and a helipad. The studio precinct is 15 minutes from the new Western Sydney International Airport.

Greenfield general manager Mick Owens told C21 the company was looking for partners with operational experience and the vision to establish multiple facilities across Western Sydney.

“We’d like to team up with consortium partners to assist us in fast-tracking our approved site. We’re already two years ahead of other studio projects in terms of planning,” Owens said.

The Western Sydney Studios site was developed in consultation with screen industry crew and stakeholders working on large-scale international and local projects.

Owens said the partnership was a pivotal opportunity to establish major creative infrastructure in NSW.

The state’s government issued a formal expressions of interest document last month inviting property developers to partner with the government in a A$100m capital investment programme.
