Ángela will star Verónica Sánchez and Daniel Grao

Spain’s Atresmedia has greenlit Ángela, a local adaptation of UK and Australian coproduction Angela Black, which it will broadcast in primetime on free-to-air Antena 3.

Buendía Estudios Bizkaia is in charge of producing the 6×50’ Spanish version which is currently in the pre-production and casting phase, and will begin filming in different locations in Vizcaya, Spain in September.

Angela Black premiered in 2021 in the UK, first on streamer BritBox and then on commercial network ITV. It is an international coproduction between Spectrum Originals and ITV in collaboration with Two Brothers Pictures, the prodco of Harry and Jack Williams, creators of the series.

The format is sold globally by All3Media International.

This is Atresmedia’s second adaptation of a scripted production from the Williams brothers for ITV – its previous adaptation was Mentiras, a Spanish version of Liar.

Ángela, which will also be available on streaming platform Atresplayer, follows a woman who tries to unmask the true face of an abusive and psychopathic husband.

Sonia Martínez and Borja Echeverría are executive producers of the series and Montse García is director of Fiction for Atresmedia. The series will be directed by Tito López.
