Atresmedia acquires Turkish Legacy

Turkish drama Legacy

Spanish media group Atresmedia has acquired another Turkish drama from distributor Eccho Rights in a deal covering more than 280 episodes.

Legacy becomes the latest Turkish drama to land in Spain following the deal for the Kanal 7 show, which recently concluded its first season of 281×45′.

Produced by Karamel Yapim, it tells the story of a little boy and his aunt, who finds herself fighting to foster the boy after he is orphaned. A second season has been commissioned and is due to start in September.

Atresmedia has been airing Turkish series on both its thematic channel Nova and its flagship free-to-air channel Antena 3 in recent years.

“Spain has really taken to Turkish drama in the past few years and audiences recognise the strength of writing, acting and production which make these some of the most successful imports we see anywhere on Spanish TV at the moment,” said Barbora Suster, head of Lat Am and Iberia, who is based in Eccho Rights’ Madrid office.

The company also has offices in Stockholm, Istanbul and Seoul and has been part of South Korean broadcast and production group CJ ENM since 2018.
