Atresmedia acquires rights to adapt All3Media format The Traitors for Spain

All3Media International’s The Traitors is coming to Atresmedia
Spanish media group Atresmedia has acquired the rights to adapt UK distributor All3Media International’s hit format The Traitors for Spain, which will have a new local adaptation after its run on HBO Max.
Created in 2021 by All3Media-owned Dutch production company IDTV for RTL4 in the Netherlands, The Traitors is one of the biggest unscripted formats on the international market with almost 20 international adaptations.
In Spain, the HBO Max platform adapted it last year with Gestmusic, part of Banijay Iberia, for a season that was later broadcast on the free-to-air channel Dmax, also owned by Warner Bros Discovery.
Atresmedia plans to broadcast its version of the reality show on free-to-air TV with non-celebrity participants. The news was first reported by the local news site 20 Minutos and was confirmed by C21’s sister publication Cveintiuno.
The Traitors is set in a remote castle where contestants face challenges to win a cash prize. The twist is that three contestants are traitors and must eliminate the rest of the contestants without being discovered in order to steal the prize.
In addition to Spain and the Netherlands, The Traitors has already been adapted in markets such as the US (Peacock), the UK (BBC One), France (M6), Australia (Network 10), Germany (RTL) and Finland (Nelonen).
Last year, UK-based consultancy firm K7 Media named the show the format of the year in its annual Tracking the Giants report and revealed that in 2024 the reality show is preparing nine further international adaptations.
Atresmedia is one of the most active broadcasters in terms of adapting international formats in Spain. The company has acquired titles such as The Voice, The Masked Singer, I Can See Your Voice, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, as well as the more recent The 1% Club, The Wheel, The Floor or Beat My Mini-Mes. It also has an agreement with Talpa for The Jump, The Quiz With Balls also from Talpa and The Piano from Fremantle, among others.
