Atomic Cartoons options zombie novel

Atomic Cartoons in Canada, part of the Thunderbird production group, has optioned the rights to a comedy book series set in the aftermath of an apocalypse.

The Last Kids on Earth, written by Max Brallier and illustrated by Doug Holgate, will be developed for the screen by Atomic.

Brallier will write the animated series and executive produce alongside Atomic’s Jennifer McCarron and Matthew Berkowitz.

The books follow a 13-year-old boy and a band of suburban middle schoolers who live in a tree house, play video games, gorge themselves on candy and battle zombies.

The third instalment in the book series is published today by Viking, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

Recent series Atomic Cartoons has worked on include Beat Bugs, Little Charmers, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Rocket Monkeys, Counterfeit Cat, Max & Ruby and Transformers Rescue Bots.

The Thunderbird production group recently promoted Ivan Fecan to the role of interim CEO and named McCarron as CEO of Atomic Cartoons.
