Argonon adds BBC drama veteran

UK indie Argonon has hired a drama producer from the BBC to drive new projects from its Leopardrama arm.

Ruth Caleb will also work on existing projects including a feature film about the life of British entertainer Danny La Rue and the Terence Davies feature Mother of Sorrows.

Caleb has worked in drama production for the last 40 years. She became the first female head of drama at the BBC when she was named head of BBC Wales Drama in the 1980s.

Her TV drama Care, which was broadcast in 2000, was awarded the BAFTA TV Award for Best Single Drama and the Prix Italia for Best TV Drama. She has also worked on Pawel Pawlikowski’s The Last Resort, Dominic Savage’s Bullet Boy and TV one-off A Short Stay in Switzerland.

The appointment is the latest in a series of new hires and partnerships for Argonon, which recently took on Endemol gameshow expert Tom Blakeson, and also added BBC comedy exec Suzanne Gilfillan.
