Apple TV+ visits Korea’s Dr Brain

Lee Sun-Kyun in Oscar-winning Korean film Parasite

US tech giant Apple has commissioned the first original Korean-language project for its streaming service Apple TV+.

Dr Brain comes from filmmaker Kim Jee-Woon (I Saw the Devil). Starring Lee Sun-Kyun (Parasite), it will debut globally on Apple TV+ later this year.

The sci-fi thriller is based on a popular Korean webtoon and is now in production in South Korea. The plot follows a brain scientist who is obsessed with using technology to access people’s consciousness and memories. After his family falls victim to a mysterious accident, he uses his skills to access memories from his wife’s brain and piece together what actually happened.

Korean prodcos Bound Entertainment, Kakao Entertainment, Studioplex and Dark Circle Pictures are producing.

The series will join a growing slate of international Apple original dramas, including Pachinko, the Korean, Japanese and English-language series based on the acclaimed novel; and Masters of the Air, an Apple Studios limited series executive produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, alongside Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone.
