Apple TV+ renews spy drama Tehran, Hugh Laurie joins cast for S3

Tehran launched on Israeli public broadcaster Kan

Apple TV+ has renewed its espionage thriller Tehran for a third instalment, with British actor Hugh Laurie joining the ensemble cast for the new season.

The series, which is created by Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden and Maor Kohn and produced by Donna and Shula Productions, is currently filming its third run.

The show follows a Mossad hacker-agent (played by Niv Sultan) who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity. Laurie, whose biggest TV roles include medical drama House and drama series The Night Manager, will play a South African nuclear inspector in the show.

Season one launched on Israeli public broadcaster Kan in June 2020. Apple TV+ licensed the first season and later boarded subsequent seasons as a commissioner, adding cast members including US actress Glenn Close. It has gone on to become one of the streamer’s most popular international series.

Executive producers on Tehran include Eden and Shula Spiegel for Donna and Shula Productions, Alon Aranya for Paper Plane Productions, Julien Leroux for Paper Entertainment, Peter Emerson for Cineflix Studios and Tal Fraifeld for Kan, in addition to Tony Saint, Daniel Syrkin, Zonder and Dari Shai Slutzky.
