Apple TV+ plays Big Man on Campus

College basketball player Makur Maker

US streaming platform Apple TV+ has ordered a factual series about Makur Maker, the highest-ranked basketball player in modern times to commit to playing for a historically African American college.

Maker was born in Kenya, grew up in Australia and is now a freshman playing for Howard University in Florida, to which he publicly committed last year.

Titled Big Man on Campus, the docuseries will follow Maker through his first year at Howard, which has been dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.

US prodcos Exhibit A and Boardwalk Pictures are producing the show along with Sony Pictures Television. Seth Gordon, who made 2011 sports documentary Undefeated, is director and exec producer.

Also exec producing are Nikki Calabrese, Boardwalk president Andrew Fried and VP Dane Lillegard, and Sarina Roma and Jordan Wynn.
