Apple TV+ orders Yo Gabba Gabba! hybrid series from WildBrain

SVoD service Apple TV+ has commissioned a 20×30’ series based on children’s property Yo Gabba Gabba! as it continues to expand its kids’ content pipeline.

The new version of the show, which will combine live-action and animation as it teaches children important lessons through song and dance, will be produced in partnership with WildBrain and Yo Gabba Gabba LLC, which jointly own the IP.

Created by Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz, the property launched in 2007 as a television series on Nickelodeon.

During its original run between 2007 and 2015, the show featured guest stars including Jack Black, Devo, Rachel Dratch, The Flaming Lips, Tony Hawk, The Killers, Solange Knowles, Jack McBrayer, MGMT, Mos Def, The Roots, Andy Samberg, Amy Sedaris, Sarah Silverman, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Elijah Wood and Weird Al Yankovic.

In addition to the new commission, Apple TV+ has picked up the entire catalogue of Yo Gabba Gabba! episodes.

The greenlight represents an expansion of Apple TV+’s partnership with WildBrain. The companies have previously collaborated on content associated with the Peanuts brand, which is majority-owned by WildBrain.

Apple TV+’s other kids offerings include Ghostwriter and Helpsters from Sesame Workshop, the animated film Wolfwalkers and the upcoming Fraggle Rock reboot.
