Apple TV+ lines up Peter Capaldi, Cush Jumbo in detective thriller Criminal Record

The eight-part drama, produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios, comes from screenwriter and producer Paul Rutman (Vera, Indian Summers) and follows two detectives in a tug of war over a historic murder conviction.

Apple said the show “touches on issues of race, institutional failure and the quest to find common ground in a polarised Britain.” Filming is underway in London.

Rutman, Capaldi and Jumbo serve as executive producers alongside Elaine Collins (Shetland, Vera), with Jim Loach (Save Me Too, Oranges and Sunshine) directing.

Other recent commissions from Apple TV+ include the “genre-bending” drama Sugar, created by Mark Protosevich (The Cell, Thor) and starring Colin Farrell.

The streamer also ordered a 10-episode Spanish-language crime drama inspired by the true stories of Mexico’s first female police force; limited series Before starring comedy veteran Billy Crystal, about a psychiatrist who encounters a troubled young boy shortly after losing his wife; and renewed its musical comedy series Schmigadoon! and sports drama Swagger for second seasons.

Earlier this year, Scotland-based production company STV Studios extended its exclusive partnership with scripted producer Tod Productions for a further three years.
