Apple TV+ inks first-look with Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne’s Animal Pictures

Animal Pictures co-founder Maya Rudolph in Apple TV+ series Loot

Apple’s SVoD service Apple TV+ has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Animal Pictures, the production outfit led by US actresses Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne and producer Danielle Renfrew Behrens.

The deal gives Apple TV+ a first look at series and digital features developed and produced under Animal Pictures, which was launched in 2018.

The announcement comes on the heels of the release of Apple TV+ original Loot, coproduced by Animal Pictures and starring Rudolph.

Released last week, the series follows a billionaire (Rudolph) who finds herself in a downward spiral after learning  her husband has been lying to her for 20 years. To her surprise, a charitable foundation offers her a way to get back on track.

Animal Pictures is also a producer on Netflix comedy-drama Russian Doll, which is co-created by Lyonne, who also plays the lead role, as well as Peacock mystery drama Poker Face and Amazon adult animation The Hospital, created by Cirocco Dunlap.

Apple TV+ has a growing roster of overall and first-look deals with production companies including Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions as well as A24, Imagine Documentaries and Skydance Media.

Animal Pictures also has deals with Siân Heder, Malala Yousafzai, Jon Stewart, Alfonso Cuaron, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Misha Green, Mimi Leder, Charlotte Stoudt, Moshe Zonder, Alon Aranya, Lee Eisenberg, Monica Beletsky, Tracy Oliver and Sam Catlin, among others.
