Apple TV+ heads to Shape Island with new stop-motion animation series

Square, Triangle and Circle in children’s show Shape Island

Apple TV+ has revealed a new stop-motion series, Shape Island, based on a bestselling picture book trilogy from Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen.

The children’s show, set to launch on the tech giant’s streamer on January 20, takes place on a charming island and follows its three main characters – serious Square, intrepid Circle and tricky Triangle – as they learn how to navigate each other’s differences.

Barnett and Klassen, who co-created the show, are executive producers alongside Bix Pix Entertainment’s Kelli Bixler and Drew Hodges. Ryan Pequin is head writer and co-executive producer.

Shape Island is voiced by Yvette Nicole Brown (Disenchanted), Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows), Scott Adsit (30 Rock) and Gideon Adlon (Blockers).

Elsewhere, another Apple TV+ kids’ series, Helpsters, is set to return tomorrow for its third season.

The educational series, about a team of monsters who like to solve problems, features guest stars including John Oliver, Tami Sagher, Nathan Lee Graham, Mario Cantone, Johnathan Fernandez, Eugene Cordero and Sunita Mani.

The show is created by showrunner Tim McKeon (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends: Destination Imagination, Odd Squad), who executive produces alongside Benjamin Lehmann, Adam Peltzman, Eileen Braun and Sesame Workshop’s Kay Wilson Stallings.
