The second season of Apple TV+ historical comedy adventure series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has been scrapped after lead actor Noel Fielding pulled out of the series.
Production was already underway on new episodes of the big-budget UK show, produced by ITV Studios-backed Big Talk Studios, which had been set to resume filming this month after the festive break, having been recommissioned last year.
However, Fielding did not return to filming due to his health and, despite efforts to reschedule shooting dates, the decision was made to cancel the series. Deadline reported Big Talk was unable to secure insurance for the issue that shuttered the shoot.
A representative for the comedian told UK newspapers: “This is a private and confidential matter regarding our client’s health. We are saddened by the decision to cease production but we cannot make any further comment on this matter.”
According to reports, more than 100 cast and crew members are considering a class action lawsuit against the makers of the series after it was unexpectedly axed. The news was first reported by The Sun.
A fictional take on the life of Dick Turpin, the series follows the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws on a journey of absurd escapades and features a cast swelling with British comedy talent.
It is written by Richard Naylor and Jon Brittain as well as Fielding (The Mighty Boosh, The Great British Bake Off). Exec producers include Kenton Allen, Fielding, Victoria Grew and Ben Palmer.
Meanwhile, Fielding’s agents are reportedly in talks with Channel 4 bosses about his involvement in the next season of hit format The Great British Bake Off, which he co-hosts with Alison Hammond.
