Apple TV+ adapts Owl Diaries books into kids and family animated series

Apple TV+ is adapting Rebecca Elliott’s Owl Diaries into an animated series for kids and families.

Titled Eva the Owlet, the adaptation will be produced by Scholastic Entertainment and animated by Ireland’s Brown Bag Films, with original songs from American musician Fitz.

Scholastic Entertainment is the film and TV production arm of book publisher Scholastic, which publishes Owl Diaries.

The series follows a creative, cheeky owlet called Eva who lives next door to her best friend Lucy in the woodland world of Treetopington. With big ideas and an even bigger personality, Eva goes on high-flying adventures, expressing herself in her journal along the way.

Eva the Owlet is the latest series in the Apple TV+ kids’ changemakers initiative, which brings education leaders together with creative storytellers to create inspiring and enriching original series for kids. Series to date include Stillwater, Hello, Jack: The Kindness Show and Pretzel & the Puppies.

For Eva the Owlet, Apple TV+ partnered with John F Evans – a writing clinician, health and wellness coach and the founder and executive director of Wellness & Writing Connections. He works with individuals and groups to teach them how to use writing for better physical, emotional and mental health

Evans collaborated with executive producers and Scholastic Entertainment to help develop Eva the Owlet and infuse lessons around the value of using writing as a tool for healthy self-expression.

Exec producing the series for Scholastic Entertainment are exec VP, chief strategy officer and president Iole Lucchese, senior VP and general manager Caitlin Friedman and VP of TV development and programming Jef Kaminsky.

Head series writers and co-exec producers are Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White. The series director is Damien O’Connor.
