APC finds new broadcast homes for comedy drama The Unusual Suspects

Comedy heist drama The Unusual Suspects

Broadcasters across Northern Europe have acquired Australian comedy heist drama The Unusual Suspects, following deals with Paris-based About Premium Content (APC).

Free-to-air TV rights to the 4×52’ series have gone to NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, RTL in Belgium and RTS in Switzerland, while Stod 2 in Iceland and Hot in Israel took pay TV and SVoD rights.

Elsewhere, Canal+ in Poland has picked up basic TV, pay TV and SVoD rights, while AMC Networks’ Acorn TV in the UK has also acquired SVoD rights for the English-language, female-led comedy drama.

These new licences come soon after the show was picked up by Bell Media for Canada; streaming service Rialto in New Zealand; OCS in France; Filmin in Spain; AMC Networks International Southern Europe in Spain and Portugal; Streamz and Proximus in Belgium; and Hulu in the US.

The Unusual Suspects is an Aquarius Films production for SBS in Australia. Major production investment also came from Screen Australia in association with Screen NSW and APC, which handles international distribution. The series is financed with support from Cutting Edge Post.

APC’s joint CEOs and founders Laurent Boissel and Emmanuelle Guilbart said the new sales were down to The Unusual Suspects’ “empowered and entertaining characters, providing a fresh insight into the immigrant experience.”
