Anonymous Content, Morena Films launch JV to produce Spanish-language content

US-based Anonymous Content and the Spanish production company Morena Films have partnered to launch a joint venture to develop and produce content in Spanish aimed at the global market.

David Davoli

David Davoli, president of international at Anonymous Content, and Pilar Benito, CEO of Morena Films, will lead the joint venture, and will appoint a managing director in the coming weeks.

The alliance aims to “leverage Morena’s long-standing reputation as one of the key production companies in Spain” to continue developing and producing top-quality film and television projects, the duo said in a statement.

This marks the fifth joint venture that Anonymous has created to grow in key international territories, after the launch of Anonymous/Federation (France), AC Nordic (Nordic countries), AC Brazil (Brazil) and AC Chapter One (UK). The company previously announced it would continue to push this growth strategy “in Europe and other international markets.”

“Spain has a very rich and vibrant film and television history and is home to some of the most incredible filmmakers, writers and talent in the world,” Davoli said, regarding today’s news.

“We couldn’t think of a better partner to dive into this territory than the Morena Films team. Their two and a half decades of experience combined with their undeniable impact on the Spanish film market make them invaluable partners and we can’t wait to see what great work we will do together.”

Benito added that the new joint company will focus on developing and creating content in Spanish with global appeal.

“Not only will we collaborate with the best Spanish-speaking writers and directors, but we will also work hard to identify new talent that will help nurture our great audiovisual industry,” said the CEO of Morena.

Anonymous Content’s credits include movies The Revenant and The Stranger, and series Homecoming (Amazon), 13 Reasons Why (Netflix) or Mr Robot (USA Network). Among the projects soon to be released are the fourth season of True Detective with Jodie Foster (HBO) and Disclaimer by Alfonso Cuarón (Apple TV+).

Morena Films is behind more than 100 titles that include feature films Celda 211, Cerdita or Campeones, series Las Invisibles (SkyShowtime) and La Chica Invisible (Disney+), and documentaries Tequila and Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll.
