Toronto-based Entertainment One (eOne) is financing and producing a new documentary following acclaimed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe, produced by eOne’s London team, will give new access to the superstar singer and shed new light on his life story.

Filming is currently underway in Italy and the US, with Bocelli executive producing alongside his wife Veronica Bocelli, Scott Rodger and Francesco Pasquero, in addition to eOne’s Tara Long, Malcolm Gerrie, Matt Pritchard and Geno McDermot. Jan Younghusband is producing.

Italian documentary filmmaker Cosima Spender (Dolce Vita Africana, Palio) is directing the project, which is scheduled for release next year, 30 years after Bocelli first broke into the industry.

Formerly owned by toymaker Hasbro, eOne is in the process of being sold to US studio Lionsgate for around US$500m. The deal is expected to close before the end of the year.
