Ample adds Scientology doc showrunner

US prodco Ample Entertainment has hired the showrunner of A&E series Leah Remini: Scientology & the Aftermath as part of an expansion of its creative team.

Alex Weresow

Emmy-winning exec producer and showrunner Alex Weresow is joining the California-based firm as senior VP of current programming.

In addition, Darren Kane is being promoted to executive VP of production. Both will work from the company’s Culver City base and will report to co-presidents and co-founders Ari Mark and Phil Lott.

Weresow will now exec produce all Ample series and specials and oversee production for the firm, which announced a coproduction agreement with Courteney Cox and her prodco Hopper Productions earlier this year.

He will oversee a production slate that includes close to 50 hours of programming for 2018/2019 such as 9 Months with Courteney Cox (Facebook), Murder in the Heartland (ID) and Yamashita’s Gold (History).

Prior to joining Ample, Weresow served as executive producer and showrunner for A&E’s critically acclaimed Leah Remini: Scientology & the Aftermath, for which he won an Emmy award. The docuseries sees actor and former Scientologist Remini investigate the controversial organisation.

Other credits include The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway (Oxygen), Wife Swap (ABC), Undercover Boss (CBS) and Living with the Enemy (Lifetime).

Meanwhile, in his expanded role, Kane is responsible for all television production, business affairs and strategic planning. He joined Ample from ITV Studios.

His oversight includes all aspects of business development, including music publishing and corporate operations, as well as expansion of Ample’s production and post-production studio.
