The West (8×60’), which chronicles the evolution of the American West from 1865 to 1890, will premiere next summer.

The series hails from Stephen David Entertainment in association with Redford’s Sundance Productions. David and Redford will act as exec producers, along with Laura Michalchyshyn.

The project was revealed at the Television Critics’ Association (TCA) Press Tour, along with a number of other shows.

AMC has also greenlit an eight-episode second season of The Making of the Mob, which focuses on organised crime in Chicago, including the rise and fall of Al Capone. The series is also produced by David’s company.

The cablenet, along with UK broadcaster Channel 4 (C4), has picked up an eight-episode second season of Humans, the adaptation of Swedish drama Äkta Människor (Real Humans).

The sci-fi series, from UK writing partners Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks) and coproduced by Kudos, has scored high ratings for both AMC and C4.

Meanwhile, AMC has renewed Walking Dead spin-off Fear the Walking Dead for a 15-episode second season.

The first six-episode run, recently picked up by Canal+ in France, will debut on August 23 with a 90-minute episode. The second season will premiere in 2016.

The programme was created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson and is produced by AMC Studios, Valhalla Entertainment and Circle of Confusion.

The first two runs will also air on AMC Global, AMC Networks’ international channel.

AMC Global has also taken exclusive first-window TV rights to Humans from Endemol Shine International. The 8×60’ series will debut in most AMC Global territories in October, with a second season to premiere in 2016.

In addition, AMC Global will premiere martial arts drama Into the Badlands (6×60’) simultaneously worldwide, in conjunction with AMC in the US, on November 15.

The company previously announced it had secured exclusive first-window international TV rights to the series.

Fear the Walking Dead’s second season will also broadcast on AMC Global in 2016.
