AMC Networks renews Graham Roland’s Western crime thriller Dark Winds

Dark Winds debuted on AMC and AMC+ this month

AMC Networks has ordered a second six-episode season of its Western crime thriller Dark Winds.

The original series, carried by cablenet AMC and streamer AMC+, premiered on June 12 and four of the six episodes have been released so far.

Produced by AMC Studios, the project is an adaptation of Tony Hillerman’s crime fiction book series Leaphorn & Chee.

It is created and executive produced by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Returned) and stars Zahn McClarnon (The Son, Westworld), Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico) and Jessica Matten (Tribal, The Empty Man).

According to AMC Networks, Dark Winds is the biggest new-series launch in the history of AMC+.

Set in 1971, the show follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police as he investigates a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. It counts Robert Redford, George RR Martin, Anne Hillerman, Chris Eyre, Vince Calandra, Vince Gerardis, Tina Elmo and Roland among its executive producers.
