AMC pilots period dramas

Mad Men cable network AMC has ordered pilots for two new period dramas, including a 1980s-set project from the exec producers of Breaking Bad.

Halt & Catch Fire is a dramatisation of the personal computing boom of the 1980s seen through the eyes of a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy.

It was created by Chris Cantwell and Chris Rodgers and is produced by AMC Studios. Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad) from Gran Via Productions exec produce.

The second pilot, Turn, is based on the book Washington’s Spies, written by Alexander Rose. Set in 1778, it tells the story of a New York farmer who together with some childhood friends forms an unlikely group of spies supporting American independence.

Also from AMC Studios, it is written by showrunner Craig Silverstein (Nikita) and exec produced by Barry Josephson (Bones).

Production of both pilots is set to take place next year and follows the completion of two more AMC pilots, Low Winter Sun and an as-yet untitled legal project from Richard LaGravenese and Tony Goldwyn.
