AMC hires CMT exec for unscripted

US cablenet AMC has appointment an executive from rival CMT to oversee its growing development of unscripted reality series.

Eliot Goldberg is joining as senior VP of unscripted programming having previously been senior VP of original programming and development at CMT.

He will now assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of AMC’s reality series development as well as its current slate of unscripted programming, reporting to executive VP of original programming, production and digital content Joel Stillerman.

At CMT, Goldberg helped develop original series including Bayou Billionaires, Big Texas Heat and the reworking of Dog the Bounty Hunter, called Dog and Beth: On the Hunt.

Prior to joining the channel in 2011 he was senior VP of development and original programming at TV Land, where he oversaw reality series including High School Reunion and Harry Loves Lisa.

He also spent time as executive VP of programming and development for Ryan Seacrest Productions, executive producing Keeping Up with the Kardashians, among others.

AMC first dipped its toe into the unscripted waters in 2011 with Talking Dead, a live show to complement its Walking Dead series and has since aired Comic Book Men, The Pitch and Small Town Security. Its latest unscripted series, Owner’s Manual, is due to premiere in August.
