AMC adds crime trio, horror anthology

Shudder original Creepshow

AMC Networks in the US has acquired the rights to three crime dramas for its AMC+ streaming bundle and has greenlit a horror anthology for SVoD service Shudder.

The crime dramas – Kin, Too Close and Cold Courage – will launch exclusively in the US as AMC+ originals.

Currently filming in Ireland, Kin charts the lives of a fictional Dublin family embroiled in a gangland war. Starring Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), Ciarán Hinds (The Terror) and Emmett J Scanlan (Peaky Blinders), the series will debut on AMC+ this fall.

Kin is produced by Bron Studios and Headline Pictures in association with RTÉ, Nordic Entertainment (NENT) Group and Creative Wealth Media. Peter McKenna is the show’s co-creator, writer, showrunner and exec producer. Ciarán Donnelly co-created the series.

Kin will launch exclusively on pubcaster RTÉ in Ireland and on NENT Group streaming service Viaplay in the Nordics, Baltics and Poland.

Too Close, meanwhile, is a three-part psychological thriller that centres on a forensic psychiatrist who must assess a criminal suspect. Starring Emily Watson (Chernobyl), it will premiere on AMC+ later this year.

The show is produced by Snowed In Productions and written by Clara Salaman. All3Media International is the distributor.

The third crime drama, Cold Courage, is based on the novels from Finnish journalist Pekka Hiltunen and produced by Lionsgate. Starring John Simm (Doctor Who), Caroline Goodall (The White Princess), Arsher Ali (Line of Duty) and Sofia Pekkari, the plot follows two women as they collide during a series of murders in London.

David Joss Buckley and Brendan Foley have adapted the books for the screen, with Agneta Fagerstrom and Kadir Ferati Balci directing. The first three episodes of Cold Courage will launch on AMC+ on March 11.

Elsewhere, AMC and horror- and supernatural-themed SVoD platform Shudder have greenlit an as-yet-untitled horror anthology series that will showcase stories from black directors and screenwriters.

Ezra C Daniels, Tananarive Du, Steven Barnes, Victor LaValle and Al Letson are among the writers of the series, which is set to debut on Shudder and AMC+ later this year, followed by a premiere on AMC.

Swirl Films is producing, with the prodco’s founder Eric Tomosunas exec producing alongside Ron Robinson.

Shudder has also renewed anthology series Creepshow for a third season, ahead of the show’s S2 premiere on April 1.

Based on George A Romero’s iconic 1982 horror comedy anthology movie, Creepshow is executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and produced by Monster Agency Productions, Taurus Entertainment and Striker Entertainment.
