Amazon’s Prime Video scores rights to Manchester United docuseries 99

Football documentary 99 from Studio 99 and Buzz 16

Amazon’s Prime Video has acquired the rights to sports documentary series 99, about UK football team Manchester United’s historic treble-winning success in 1999.

The series details how the team, then managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, lifted the Premier League title, plus the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League trophies over the course of 10 days at the end of the 1998/99 season.

It is produced by Ventureland in association with David Beckham’s prodco Studio 99 and Gary Neville’s label Buzz 16.

To be streamed in 240 countries next year, 99 features never-seen-before footage plus interviews with players including Beckham, Neville, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Ventureland’s John Battsek and Miles Coleman will produce the series, while the executive producers are Nicola Howson and David Gardner for Studio 99, Scott Melvin for Buzz 16 and Kerstin Emhoff for Ventureland. Sampson Collins (Gazza) is directing the series.

99 expands Amazon’s collection of factual football docs and series, including All or Nothing: Arsenal and Take Us Home: Leeds United.
