Amazon tunes up Argentinian comedy

US tech giant Amazon has greenlit an original Argentinian comedy series for its global SVoD service Prime Video.

Porno y Helado focuses on the friendship between two social outcasts and a young con artist who fake their way into starting a rock band.

The 8×30’ series was created, written and directed by Martin Piroyansky, who also stars as Pablo, a 30-year-old man-child. Along with his loser best friend, Ramon (Nachito Saralegui), and young con artist Ceci (Sofia Morandi), he creates a fake rock band that takes the local music scene by storm.

Argentinian actor, model, TV host and businesswoman Susana Giménez will return to the screen in a supporting role alongside Eliseo Barrionuevo, Martín Pavlovsky, Javier Niklison, Santiago Korovsky and Favio Posca.

“We’re very elated to add Porno y Helado to the slate of exciting shows we have planned for Argentina and the region. This hilarious story speaks to the misadventures experienced by friends in the modern world, all made possible by an amazing cast,” said Javiera Balmaceda, head of local originals for Spanish-speaking Latin America at Amazon Studios.

The series is produced by Navajo Films, which is led by Lucas Vivo García Lagos, with the collaboration of Claxson and Salado. Mariano Kohan and Mariano Varela are the executive producers.
