Amazon takes Shelter with Coben

Amazon Studios has given a pilot order to a young-adult mystery crime drama called Shelter, based on Harlan Coben’s novel of the same name.

Harlan Coben

Produced by MGM International Television, the pilot is being adapted from the first book in the author’s Mickey Bolitar trilogy, to which MGM holds the screen rights.

In Shelter, after witnessing his father’s death and sending his mother to rehab, Mickey switches high schools and meets Ashley. Ashley then vanishes, and Mickey follows her trail into a seedy underworld that reveals neither Ashley nor his father were who they claimed to be.

Coben will serve as an executive producer on the project alongside Wild Sheep Content boss and former Netflix exec Erik Barmack and showrunner Ed Decter (Shadowhunters).

Rola Bauer, president of international TV productions at MGM, said: “Harlan Coben’s novels are exactly the right fit for our target global audiences: narratives that transcend borders and break boundaries.

“He is a brilliant storyteller who is read worldwide and, along with our talented showrunner Ed Decter, we are proud to bring this relevant story to the screen, together with our partners at Amazon Studios.”
