Amazon Studios promotes exec trio Kara Smith, Jon Wax and Andy Bourne

Amazon’s content arm Amazon Studios has elevated three key executivess, with Kara Smith, Jon Wax and Andy Bourne taking on new roles and responsibilities.

Smith, who was previously head of limited series development, has been promoted to head of TV development, SVoD coproductions.

During her time with Amazon Studios, Smith has worked on titles including The Summer I Turned Pretty, Reacher, The Terminal List and the upcoming crime drama Cross. She will continue to report to Laura Lancaster, who serves as head of SVoD TV development and series, coproductions.

At the same time, Andy Bourne, formerly the head of development, coproductions, has been named head of limited series, reporting to Smith. The exec, who joined from Disney last year, has worked on titles including The Old Man, Dopesick and The Chi.

Amazon also promoted Jon Wax to the newly created role of head of global content synergy, TV.

Wax’s team will collaborate with all of Amazon’s global TV content groups, in addition to “[syncing] directly with our Prime Video US and International partners to strategise at the earliest stages on how our upcoming pipeline can deliver for each region’s needs,” read an internal memo from head of TV Vernon Sanders, head of international originals James Farrell and Lancaster.
