Amazon sends 72 Films on mission to make James Bond competition series

007’s Road to a Million takes contestants to Bond locations worldwide

US tech giant Amazon has greenlit a new reality competition series based on the James Bond film franchise for its Prime Video streaming service from The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty producer 72 Films.

007’s Road to a Million will see contestants pair up and take part in a variety of challenges that test endurance and intelligence at different locations across the world that have been featured in the Bond franchise. The winners will take home a £1m (US$1.3m) cash prize.

The eight-part series is being made with MGM Television and Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, who serve as executive producers along with David Glover, Barry Poznick and Mark Burnett. At MGM, 007’s Road to a Million will be overseen by its unscripted head Dom Bird, who previously worked at Channel 4 as head of formats.

The commission comes after the US tech giant completed its US$8.45bn acquisition of MGM, the home of Bond and titles such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo and Vikings.

However, 007’s Road to a Million is separate to the Amazon/MGM deal, with reports suggesting that the unscripted show has been in development at Prime Video for around four years.
