Amazon, RTVE prep Spanish horror reboot

Historias Para No Dormir aired on Primera Cadena from 1966 to 1982

Amazon Prime Video and Spanish broadcaster RTVE have commissioned a reboot of Historias Para No Dormir (Stories to Stay Awake), the horror anthology series created by Spanish director Chicho Ibáñez Serrador.

The 4×50’ remake has been produced by Viacom International Studios (VIS), part of ViacomCBS Networks International, and Prointel e Isla Audiovisual.

Rodrigo Cortés (Buried), Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Mother), Paco Plaza (REC) and Paula Ortiz (The Bride) will each direct an episode. Filming began this week in Madrid.

The original series was produced by Televisión Española and broadcast on its Primera Cadena channel from 1966 to 1982.

Laura Abril, head of VIS EMEA, said: “Historias Para No Dormir will feature top local talents, rebooting an iconic series by one of the most relevant Spanish TV creators ever. The series will offer global audiences the best of the traditional horror genre with a modern twist.”
