Amazon Prime Video renews Ugly Betty sequel from Estudios RCN

Betty la Fea, La Historia Continúa has been a hit across latin America

Amazon’s Prime Video has renewed Betty la Fea, La Historia Continúa one week after the series premiered and broke the streamer’s viewing records in Latin America.

“The show’s phenomenal success underscores Prime Video’s commitment to sharing iconic local stories from the region of exceptional quality that resonate deeply with our customers around the world,” said Paulo Koelle, head of Prime Video Latin America.

“Prime Video’s strategy in Latin America has been to focus on what really matters, taking calculated risks to offer our customers all the content they want in one place and we are very excited to bring Betty back for another season,” he added.

Produced by Estudios RCN, Betty la Fea, La Historia Continúa was originally announced a year ago as the continuation, 20 years later, of the Colombian series ‘Betty, la fea’, which was later remade in the US as Ugly Betty.

The new series was written by Marta Betoldi, Juan Carlos Pérez and César Betancur together with Valeria Gómez and Luis Carlos Ávila.

It was directed by Mauricio Cruz Fortunato, and had the executive production of Juan Pablo Posada and Yalile Giordanelli, with Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello participating as associate producers and production supervision by Andrés Posada and Ana María Londoño.

“Continuing the story of ‘Betty la fea’ without the masterful pen of Fernando Gaitán was a huge challenge. However, Amazon Studios and Estudios RCN came together in search of the right voices and, together with original and new talents, we created a story that preserves the original DNA and is modern, fresh and full of nostalgia at the same time,” said Javiera Balmaceda, who leads the original content team for Latin America, Canada and Australia at Amazon Studios.

The first season introduced most of the original cast as they faced a variety of personal and professional challenges.
