Amazon opts for Orphan Black

Amazon’s VoD service Prime Instant Video is set to become the exclusive US subscription home to the BBC’s thriller Orphan Black.

The deal with BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) North America, the US wing of the UK pubcaster’s commercial arm, will see Prime Instant Video make the first season and all future runs of the show available to its subscribers.

Orphan Black first aired in the US on BBC America and will return for a second season in April. The first 10×60′ series has already sold to Numero 23 in France, SBS in Australia and SoHo in New Zealand.

It stars Golden Globe-nominee Tatiana Maslany and focuses on a young woman who assumes the identity of a dead stranger who is then caught up in the strange details of her life. The show is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC America and Bell Media’s Space and is distributed internationally by BBCWW North America.

“Orphan Black is exactly the type of smart, suspenseful TV show that our customers love to binge on,” said Brad Beale, director of digital video content acquisition for Amazon.
