Amazon MGM’s pan-English scripted originals boss Rola Bauer to exit

Veteran international scripted executive Rola Bauer is set to exit her role as head of pan-English scripted originals at Amazon MGM.

Bauer’s departure, the exact date of which is still being finalised, is said to be a mutual separation, with the exec set to return to producing and her “entrepreneurial roots.”

With Bauer’s departure, her team and the slate of global originals it oversaw is being absorbed into the wider Amazon MGM Studios team, Amazon has confirmed. The team will now report to Amazon Studios’ LA-based head of television Vernon Sanders.

Bauer has played a key role in guiding Amazon’s slate of English-language series produced outside the US since she moved over to the tech giant following its acquisition of MGM.

During her tenure with Amazon MGM Studios, Bauer’s team produced half a dozen scripted series, among them the upcoming Harlan Coben thriller series Lazarus starring Bill Nighy and Sam Claflin; The Girlfriend starring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke; the Sophie Turner-led crime drama Haven and an untitled half-hour comedy series created by British actor Riz Ahmed.

Bauer joined MGM in 2020 after Tandem Communications, the company she co-founded, was fully acquired by French producer-distributor StudioCanal.
