Amazon MGM Studios’ docuseries chief Alysia Russo jumps to Netflix

Alysia Russo is leaving her post as head of documentary series at Amazon MGM Studios to join Netflix.

The move, first reported by Deadline, comes five and a half years after LA-based Russo joined Amazon as an unscripted creative executive.

She was elevated to head of docuseries, working across titles on Prime Video and AVoD streamer Freevee, in the spring of 2023.

At Netflix, Russo will be working in the feature documentary department. She has been signed on a temporary contract, according to Deadline.

Amazon has significantly rejigged its unscripted operation in recent months since it moved all Prime Video subscribers over to its newly launched ad tier by default, with subscribers required to pay an additional cost if they want no ads.

In May, it restructured several of its content teams as it gears up to push further into ad-supported streaming.

Prior to joining Amazon, Russo was a development executive at advertising and brand company Oath, where she worked across its unscripted sports and lifestyle originals.
