Amazon catches Tick

Amazon has ordered a pilot that will resurrect comic book character The Tick, star of the cult live-action series that aired on Fox 15 years ago.

Created by cartoonist Ben Edlund in 1986 as a spoof of the popular comic book superhero, The Tick was turned into an animated series in 1994 before getting the live-action treatment seven years later.

Edlund, who worked on both previous TV projects, is on board Amazon’s pilot along with Barry Josephson, while actor Griffin Newman has been cast as The Tick’s sidekick, Deadline reports.

Patrick Warburton, who played the title character in the Fox comedy, is not attached to return as the lead, but he is expected to serve as an executive producer on the pilot. Casting is currently underway.

The reboot sees the blue suit-clad Tick recovering from memory loss and teaming up again with sidekick Arthur Everest to fight evil.

In related news, Amazon Prime has acquired streaming rights to the forthcoming feature film based on late-night German sketch show Bullyparade.

The SVoD service will premiere the feature online six months after it opens in theatres in 2017 following the deal with Warner Bros Film Productions Germany. It comes after Amazon ordered its first local German drama original, Wanted, last month.
