All roads lead HBO, SBS to Romulus

Romulus re-imagines the founding of Rome

BERLINALE: HBO Europe and SBS in Australia have picked up Latin-language drama Romulus from ITV Studios (ITVS), as the UK distributor makes a raft of sales from its European drama slate.

Romulus is a forthcoming 10×60′ drama from ITVS’s Italian label Cattleya, Italy’s Groenlandia and European satcaster Sky that reconstructs the epic tale of the founding of Rome, with all dialogue in Latin.

In addition, SBS has acquired crime procedurals Petra and Masantonio, both of which also come from Cattleya.

In the US, Acorn TV and MHz have picked up Beaubourg Stories’ French crime drama Balthazar.

MHz has also acquired French dramas Pieges (ITVS France, Capa Drama, BE-Films), Les Secrets (Beaubourg Stories), Speakerine (Macondo) and Tu Es Mon Fils (EuroCorp Television, ITVS France).

Outside France, MHz has bought legal drama Aber Bergen (ITVS Norway), romantic Spanish thriller Felix (Telefonica) and Scandinavian thrillers Greyzone (Cosmos Films), Hunters (SF Studios, Harmonica Films) and Kieler Street (Anagram Norway).
