All change at NBC
UPFRONTS: NBC has unveiled its schedule for the 2013/14 season, with new programmes on four nights of the week and Tuesdays and Thursdays given complete overhauls.
The network’s new series include dramas The Blacklist, Dracula and Ironside for the fall, plus Believe, Crisis and Crossbones scheduled for midseason.
New sitcoms include The Michael J Fox Show, Welcome to the Family and Sean Saves the World for the fall, with The Family Guide and About A Boy scheduled for midseason.
NBC has also ordered dramas Chicago PD and The Night Shift and comedy Undateable as unscheduled midseason series.
On the unscripted front, NBC has ordered The Million Second Quiz and American Dream Builders, with Food Fighters greenlit for midseason.
Cancelled shows include The New Normal, Smash, Rock Center With Brian Williams and Go On.
“The overriding strategy this year was to develop enough strong comedies and dramas to take advantage of the promotional heft of the Winter Olympics and devise two schedules for the upcoming season: one for fall and a slightly different one for midseason,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment.
“Aside from our Olympics planning, we also wanted to create better flow and compatibility on each night, and deploy our strongest lead-in – The Voice – to maximum effect.”
The Blacklist, which takes the prime slot leading out of talent hit The Voice and stars James Spader, is from Sony Pictures TV and Davis Entertainment. 1970s cop series Ironside is being rebooted by Universal Television, Davis Entertainment and Yellow Brick Road Productions.
Dracula is a coproduction between Flame Ventures, Sky Living, Playground Entertainment, Universal Television, NBCUniversal International Television Production and Carnival Film & Television. The Night Shift is from Sony Pictures Television; and Believe is being made by Warner Bros Television and Bad Robot Productions.
Chicago PD is a production of Universal Television and Wolf Films; Crisis comes from 20th Century Fox Television; and Crossbones is a copro between Universal Television, Parkes/MacDonald Productions and Georgeville Television.
About a Boy is from Universal Television, Working Title Television, True Jack Productions and Tribeca Productions; The Family Guide is from Universal Television and Aggregate Films; and The Michael J Fox Show is from Sony Pictures Television and Olive Bridge Entertainment.
Sean Saves the World is produced by Universal Television and Hazy Mills Productions; Undateable is from Warner Bros Television and Doozer Productions; and Welcome to the Family is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Old Charlie Productions.
The Million Second Quiz is produced by All3 Media America, Studio Lambert and Universal Television; Food Fighters is a production of Universal Television and Electus; and American Dream Builders is from Universal Television.
