AGC set to adapt Jason Henderson’s Alex Van Helsing book series as YA drama

AGC Television, the series arm of Stuart Ford-led content outfit AGC Studios, is adding young-adult (YA) book adaptation Alex Van Helsing to its kids and family slate.

AGC chief creative officer Lourdes Diaz and YA division head Aghi Koh today unveiled the series, which is based on Jason Henderson’s books of the same name published by HarperTeen, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers.

Kit Williamson will adapt the trilogy and AGC Television’s Diaz, Koh and CEO Stuart Ford will executive produce.

The books focus on 14-year-old Alex who has no idea that he’s descended from the world’s most famous vampire hunter, but that changes fast when he arrives at Glenarvon Academy and two of his friends are kidnapped by vampires.

Williamson is the creator, director and star of the Emmy-winning LGBTQ series Eastsiders on Netflix.

He recently wrote the musical comedy feature Varsity Drag for Netflix, with Kenny Ortega attached to direct, and a feature adaptation of the novel Camp for Max, with Billie Porter attached to direct and star.

He is currently developing the series The Heralds of Valdemar for Universal Television and has written projects for CBS, Sony, Screen Gems, Legendary, A&E and MTV Studios.
