AfterShock hires UK TV chief

US publisher AfterShock Comics has hired an international programming and acquisitions veteran as its UK-based VP of film and television as the company works to expand its IP on-screen.

Dan Shires is joining AfterShock having previously had stints at Universal, Disney and more than 13 years with Fox Networks Group where he was latterly director of programmes and acquisitions in the UK and sub-Saharan Africa.

AfterShock attended C21’s Content London event last year with a library of 50 titles it believes are ripe for adaptation.

Shires has been tasked with introducing its content to UK broadcasters and producers and sourcing international production partners. He will work with Lee Kramer and Julie Pifher in the company’s LA office to create TV and film content for global broadcasters.

AfterShock has published titles including Animosity, A Walk Through Hell, Dark Art and Babyteeth and has new releases lined up for 2019.

CEO Jon Kramer said: “AfterShock is committed to securing and negotiating the best possible opportunities to have our creators’ stories adapted for audiences around the world, and Dan’s vast experience and success shaping ideas for TV and film combined with his passion for comics will be invaluable in helping AfterShock navigate the foreign marketplace.”
