A&E crowns Breakout Kings

US cabler A&E has ordered a new original drama from Fox 21 and the production company set up by former News Corp president Peter Chernin.

Breakout Kings (13×60′), from Prison Break creators Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora, will go into production this autumn for a 2011 premiere on A&E.

The show is described as an “action-packed ensemble drama following an unconventional partnership between the US Marshals’ office and a group of convicts as they work to catch fugitives on the run.”

Laz Alonso (Avatar, The Fast and the Furious) and Domenick Lombardozzi (The Wire, Entourage) star in the Fox 21/Chernin Entertainment copro. Olmstead, Santora, Chernin, plus Katherine Pope and Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will exec produce.

“As soon as we screened the Breakout Kings pilot, it struck us as the perfect fit for A&E as the network of real-life drama,” said Bob DeBitetto, president and general manager of A&E and Bio Channel.
