A+E, Bill Clinton partner on docuseries

A+E Networks has teamed up with former US president Bill Clinton to produce a documentary series on the American presidency.

The as-yet untitled project will look into the role of a US president and the history behind it, as well as shedding light on the struggles that previous presidents have gone through.

The project will be produced in-house by A+E Networks for the History channel, with other production partners yet to be announced.

Clinton previously participated in A+E Networks’ live event History Talks alongside former president George W Bush.

Continuing the presidential theme, History has also greenlit Lincoln (working title) from Jane Root’s Nutopia Pictures and Pastime Productions. The three-part event miniseries is a biography of Abraham Lincoln.

Theodore Roosevelt (working title), meanwhile, is another biopic from US prodco RadicalMedia, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and Pastime Productions.

Doris Kearns Goodwin is executive producing both projects having previously overseen History’s event miniseries Washington.

A second three-part season of Men Who Built America is also coming to the network, exec produced by DiCaprio for Appian Way and produced by Stephen David Entertainment.

Two Adam Richman projects – a second season of The Food that Built America and new 8×60’ project American Made – have also been commissioned from Lucky 8 and Six West Media respectively.

History’s sister network A&E is doubling down on its break-out true crime format Live PD, with another 160 episodes of the Friday- and Saturday-night mainstay ordered from MGM-owned Big Fish Entertainment.

A&E is doubling down on live programming with What’s It Worth? Live, which is hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworth and produced by ITV America-owned Thinkfactory Media.

At its annual upfront, the company revealed it has more than 2,200 hours of new programming and more than 50 new films in the pipeline for 2020/21.

Paul Buccieri, A+E Networks Group’s president, said: “With so many unknowns at this critical time, A+E Networks remains a stalwart in the industry, ready to meet advertisers current needs with a stable balanced content across top-performing genres.

“We are well-positioned to meet the challenges of this dynamic marketplace head-on with new high-profile projects featuring A-list talent as well as an enormous cache of premium content available now.”
