Acunmedya takes BBC Studios gameshow format The 1% Club to Turkey

The 1% Club made its debut on ITV

MIPCOM: Acunmedya-owned TV8 in Turkey has become the latest international broadcaster to commission a local version of BBC Studios quiz format The 1% Club.

On the first day of Mipcom here in Cannes, where the show was named Best Studio-Based Format at the International Format Awards on Sunday night, BBC Studios announced the latest international licence agreement for the format.

Acunmedya has acquired the primetime entertainment format to be aired on its owned and operated channel TV8. The 10×120’ series will go into production in late 2023 and is scheduled to air in the first half of 2024.

Originally made by Magnum Media and hosted by comedian Lee Mack for UK commercial broadcaster ITV, The 1% Club is a studio-based format in which the 100 members of the audience are the contestants. The audience answer a series of questions throughout the game, but to make it to the end and win the top prize of up to £100,000 (US$125,706), they must correctly answer a question only 1% of the country would get right.

BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand have recently finished production in Australia for a second season on the Seven Network, hosted by comedian Jim Jefferies. French broadcaster France Télévisions has commissioned a third season to be produced by BBC Studios France.

The agreement with Acunmedya was brokered by Tommaso Muffato, format sales manager for BBC Studios.
