Actor Marlon Wayans to play version of himself in Starz comedy Book of Marlon

Lionsgate-owned US cablenet Starz is developing Book of Marlon, a comedy in which actor Marlon Wayans plays a fictionalised version of himself.

Wayans will co-write and exec produce the half-hour series, which will explore his career as a comedian and actor as well as his personal life as he attempts to reconcile being a good person and loving father with being Marlon.

Warner Bros Television will produce Book of Marlon, with Lionsgate Television coproducing through 3 Arts Entertainment.

Through their overall deal with Warner Bros Television, Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin (Sherman’s Showcase) have been tapped to serve as showrunners. They will also exec produce with Wayans, Rick Alvarez and 3 Arts Entertainment’s founder Michael Rotenberg.

Wayans, Riddle, Salahuddin and Alvarez will co-write the pilot episode.
